Glenbrook Cinema Temporary Closure

Glenbrook Cinema Temporary Closure

Update 21 September:

Glenbrook Cinema plans to re-open December 2020.

Since the cinema closed in March this year Blue Mountains City Council has been undertaking building maintenance and building safety works on the theatre stage and within the theatre roof cavity.

Unfortunately, due to the works on stage and in the roof cavity, we are unable to use the theatre to screen movies at the present time.

It is anticipated these Council works will be completed by the end of November.

We are also hopeful that NSW remains safe and that COVID restrictions will be eased over the coming months.

Taking advantage of this closure...

Glenbrook Cinema is currently investing in major improvements and working on providing a more COVIDSafe environment for our community. During this forced closure period of our business we are revamping our cinema candy bar and ticket office to improve customer traffic flow within the theatre foyer area.

Glenbrook Cinema management and staff look forward to welcoming you back in December.

To our community,

Effective from Monday, 23 March 2020, Glenbrook Cinema will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus threat. The cinema will remain closed until we can be assured it is once again safe to open.

This difficult decision has been made with the support of Blue Mountains City Council, under their direction.

We believe this closure is essential for both the health and safety of our community, as well as the long term viability of the cinema.

Glenbrook Cinema has been operating for over 51 years. We have experienced many good times and bad. This current situation is by far the most challenging for planning a strategy for moving forward.

Rest assured, working with Blue Mountains City Council, we will be able to survive this temporary closure.

During this closure we will also be suspending the sale of Gift Tickets. We appreciate that many customers wish to purchase Gift Tickets as a way of supporting the cinema, however we believe there are many other small businesses throughout our community who will desperately need your support to get through this crisis.

We wish to thank our hard working staff for their amazing customer service and support over the years, not just for the cinema, but for our entire family. As our team are mostly casual employees, the temporary closure of the cinema will be an incredibly difficult time. Their jobs will be waiting for them when we re-open, however we cannot guarantee when this may be.

If you wish to support the cinema while we are closed, you can join our new loyalty program and become an Online VIP Member. Membership is valid for 12 months and the expiry date for all members will be extended by the duration of the closure once we re-open.

For my father Ron Curran, this will be his first significant break from work since the cinema opened back in 1968. Hopefully this will be an opportunity for him to relax, re-energise and most importantly stay healthy, avoiding this horrific virus.

You can keep up-to-date with any developments and cinema news by following Glenbrook Cinema on Facebook.

On behalf of the Curran family and all the team at Glenbrook Cinema I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone the very best of health during this time. We look forward to seeing you back at the movies when life returns to some form of normality.

Much love to all.

Ben Curran
