Captions and Audio Descriptions

Enhancing Your Cinema Experience

In addition to our hearing loop which is active every session, Glenbrook Cinema offers the following services for selected features and sessions:

OPEN CAPTION - OC

Open Captions (OC) are text with sound description displayed on the screen to allow all patrons to enjoy movies together.

These 'text subtitles' can be seen by all patrons and significantly assist the audience with following the storyline, capturing names of characters and places and understanding who is speaking dialogue off-screen.  You will never miss a word when watching Open Caption sessions.

Open Captions are only available on some films and selected sessions will be scheduled at Glenbrook Cinema if the timetable permits.

The letters OC will appear on individual Session Times displayed on our website. Advertising which sessions are Open Caption may be at short notice (i.e. only a few days in advance), however such sessions will always be promoted on our social media channels.

CLOSED CAPTION - CC

Only available on selected features.

Glenbrook Cinema does not usually know which features have this service until the feature is delivered by the film distributors. As soon as we know we add the letters CC on our Movies web page.

Closed Captions are text with sound description displayed on a dedicated Dolby Accessibility Solution device or  CaptiView device which sits in the drink cup-holders allowing individual patrons to enjoy movies with this feature.

These devices comfortably fit in the cup-holders which are available in most rows.

Dolby Accessibility Solution (DAS)
New November 2023.
This is an Android device which looks similar to a mobile phone. This device privately displays captions in clear easy to read white letters on a black background. (Not suitable for rows G and L which do not have cup holders),

CaptiView is older technology displaying green LED text. CaptiView is Not Suitable for rows G and L. These rows do not have cup-holders.

Recommend choosing a suitable row. G row or L row are NOT RECOMMENDED as you would have no choice but to hold the device in your hand the entire feature which would be uncomfortable. All other rows have cup holders suitable for the device arm.

Glenbrook Cinema has five Dolby Accessibilty Solution devices and two CaptiView devices avaialble. If you require a device please contact the cinema in advance to ensure a unit is available ready for use to avoid disappointment.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION - AD

New Dolby Accessibility Solution installed.

Active from 14th November 2023.

Only available on selected features. Glenbrook Cinema does not usually know which features have audio descriptions until the feature is delivered by the film distributors. As soon as we know we add the letters AD on our Movies web page.

Audio Description (AD) refers to an additional narration track for blind and visually impaired patrons. It consists of a narrator talking through the presentation, describing what is happening on the screen during the natural pauses in the audio, and sometimes during dialogue if deemed necessary.

Accessible via headphones which plug into the Dolby Accessible Solution device (which looks similar to a mobile phone). Glenbrook Cinema can provide headphones or you can bring your own. Headphones use a standard 3.5mm plug. There are volume control buttons on the side of the Dolby Accessible Solution device.

Glenbrook Cinema has five devices for receiving audio descriptions. If you require the use of a device, please contact the cinema in advance to ensure a device is available and ready for use to avoid disappointment.
