Glenbrook Players

Holding the Man is a play based on the autobiographical novel of the same name that tells the intimate story of Tim and John, two men who fell in love while teenagers at their all-boys high school in Melbourne during the 1970s. Their romance endured for 15 years to laugh in the face of everything life threw at them – the separations, the discrimination, the temptations, the jealousies, and the losses. Just when life feels most grounded, with both men following their respective dreams, the AIDS crisis hits Australia and changes everything. Beautifully adapted for the stage by Tommy Murphy, Holding the Man promises to be a moving exploration of this pivotal time in Australia’s history and the endurance of love in the face of adversity.
